The Lido di Volano is something special because, thanks to its location within the Po Delta Park, it is a true environmental treasure. The entire Lido is framed by the vast Valli Bertuzzi and the shady pine forest (Pineta) of Volano.
The Pineta, covering 170 hectares, has been designated a nature reserve. It consists of sandy areas where vegetation typical of dune zones has recently developed.
In the mid-1930s, the area was reforested with maritime pines, English oaks, and native pines to stabilize the sand dunes and protect them from erosion.
A 4-kilometer-long walking and biking trail runs through the area, offering excellent opportunities to observe the rich, wild fauna. Blackbirds, jays, and pheasants nest in the pine forest. In the salty waters overgrown with starfish, the rare purple heron, the great white egret, and the little egret have found a home alongside moorhens and coots.

Anglers are delighted with the nearly 100-meter-long pier, from which fishermen use special funnel-shaped nets to catch the tasty inhabitants of the lagoon.
By the way, the Camargue horses kept here in large enclosures are not part of a petting zoo. The enclosures are not accessible to visitors, but every now and then you can catch a glimpse of the horses as you drive by.
This area is also home to flamingos, which fly in from all over Europe and even Africa to spend the winter here.
