Every first weekend in September, Cervia celebrates the Sapore di sale festival, a cultural and wine event centred on Cervia’s sweet salt.
A traditional festival that re-enacts the ‘Armes de sel’, the distribution of salt to the local population. Get ready for a spectacular show!
The salt harvested from the sea in Cervia is renowned for its mild flavour and (relative) sweetness. A tasty addition to any cuisine.
During the festival, boats laden with salt are paraded in a traditional procession and, instead of being stored as usual, the salt is given away to festival-goers.
