From here, he set off on his duck hunts. Meanwhile, he was looked after by the Franchetti family's maid, Nina Bottos.
Hemingway dedicated some of the most beautiful passages in his book *Across the River and Under the Trees* to the Caorle lagoon; the book was first published in America in 1950 and then released in Italy in 1965 by the publisher Mondadori.
Which, of course, everyone in Caorle is quite proud of.
On July 21, 1999, Caorle celebrated the 100th birthday of its most famous guest, Ernest Hemingway. The occasion was marked by the opening of the Valle Grande hunting lodge as a museum. Hemingway had stayed as a guest on the estate of his friend Baron Raimondo Franchetti, who shared his passion for hunting.
And so they stalked game together through the marshy lagoon.
