From our popular series *Happiness Is in the Smallest Hut*: Nestled amid the magical landscapes of the Euganean Hills, the Villa Barbarigo estate in Valsanzibio shines with its spectacular gardens.
Villa Barbarigo Pizzoni-Ardemani, which was acquired in the 15th century by the Venetian Contarini family and passed into the possession of the Barbarigo family some 200 years later, is one of the largest gardens of that era and was once accessible by boat via the canals through the Valle di Sant'Eusebio.
The garden was designed in the second half of the 17th century based on a plan by the papal architect Luigi Bernini and covers an area of no less than 150,000 square meters.
The estate features 70 statues (most of them sculpted by Merengo) and just as many smaller sculptures, streams, waterfalls, fountains, ponds with fish, countless trees, and a garden maze!

The villa itself is private and not open to the public (viewable only from the outside), but the garden is always open and we look forward to your visit.

The Garden Maze
Find the Entrance...
This labyrinth has a unique feature: normally, the point of a labyrinth is to find your way out. But with this one, simply discovering the entrance is a challenge in itself. But don't worry: a second entrance has been created for visitors, because after all, the garden is meant to be explored as part of a day trip.
The garden's extraordinary design, which is meant to be interpreted as an allegory, represents the process of human perfection leading to salvation.
If all this is too symbolic for you, you can still seize the opportunity to at least perfect your golf handicap - right next door, where the exclusive Padova Golf Club is located.
