Although the province of Trieste covers an area of just 212 square kilometers, making it the smallest province in Italy, it is by no means the most boring. Trieste consists of six municipalities: Trieste, Duino-Aurisina, Monrupino, Muggia, S. Dorligo della Valle, and Sgonico. There are currently four border crossings into Slowenia.

Lighthouse
Coming from Miramare, you reach the town directly via Viale Miramare, lined with tamarisk trees. On the left, impossible to miss, stands the Faro della Vittoria, the lighthouse from which you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the town and the sea.
The 67.85-meter-tall tower – none other than the second-tallest lighthouse in the world – shines 35 nautical miles out to sea (and can occasionally even be seen in Caorle on clear days). It dates back to 1927 and commemorates those who fell at sea during World War I. The lighthouse has been open to visitors since 1986: from April 1 to September 30, daily from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., except Wednesdays. During the off-season, the lighthouse is only accessible on holidays.
