Fish Market

Chioggia

Something that's really worth getting up early for:

The bustling atmosphere and the variety of fish and seafood at Chioggia's fish market are an experience in themselves.

Here, the auctions are conducted in hushed tones (quite unlike, for example, at the comparatively extroverted Hamburg fish market, where customers are still professionally shouted at by Aale Dieter).
In Chioggia, on the other hand, interested buyers whisper their price into the seller's ear, and the seller awards the lot to the highest bidder.

Early risers can get a glimpse of the Adriatic's abundance of fish at Chioggia's wholesale fish market daily (except Sundays) from around 3:00 to 6:00 a.m. and start looking forward to dinner.

If you don't feel like cooking yourself, a trip to Al Faro in Caorle is definitely worth it (tip!).

Chioggia Fish Market

The weekly market in Chioggia Centro takes place every Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you are arriving by car, please note that Chioggia Centro is closed to traffic during this time.
